Project Overview
ACS Modular delivered a modular data centre facility to support the upgrade of Gatwick Airport’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems.
The facility allowed the new ATC infrastructure to be installed and tested in parallel with the existing live systems, eliminating operational risk. This approach reduced downtime, improved programme efficiency, ensured continuous air traffic operations, and provided scalable capacity for future aviation technology upgrades at the airport without disrupting ongoing airport live services.
The Challenge
Gatwick Airport needed to install new ATC systems while keeping existing systems operational.

The ACS Solution
ACS designed and manufactured a modular data centre facility fully fitted with critical infrastructure systems. All systems were installed, tested and commissioned in the factory prior to delivery.
The facility included:
- Raised computer flooring
- Redundant cooling systems
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Pre-installed data cabling and electrical infrastructure
Delivery
The facility was transported to site in two sections and installed adjacent to the control tower. Once on site, the unit was ready for system installation within seven days.

The modular approach allowed Gatwick Airport to safely install new ATC systems without disrupting existing operations.
