Baggage Reconciliation Facility (T5C North)
ACS Modular delivered a 120m x 40m stand-alone baggage handling facility at Heathrow Terminal 5 to support hold baggage screening operations.
The project was delivered within an exceptionally tight 21-week programme while operating in the heart of Heathrow’s live airside environment.
The Challenge
Heathrow required a large-scale baggage handling facility capable of processing hold baggage while operating adjacent to active aircraft stands and passenger link bridges.
Key challenges included:
- Construction within a live operational airside environment
- Proximity to four Code F aircraft stands
- Requirement for two Standard 3 baggage screening lines
- Extremely compressed 21-week programme
The ACS Solution and Delivery
The Solution
ACS utilised its modular BaggageBoX system, enabling baggage handling systems to be manufactured, tested and commissioned off-site. This allowed complex system integration to be completed prior to installation.
Delivery
By combining modular building systems with off-site baggage handling system integration, ACS reduced the design and manufacturing programme significantly. The facility was delivered eight days ahead of programme.
Outcome
The project demonstrated a new approach to airport infrastructure delivery at Heathrow, showing how modular construction and off-site integration can accelerate delivery, reduce disruption, and improve programme certainty in a live airside environment.
